Poll: server
Wondering why you’re using up more space than usual? Suddenly using hundreds of Megs of space and no idea why? Well, the log may have something to do with it. The Raw Log Manager keeps archives of data of every single hit that your site receives. Needless to say, after a while those small bytes can quickly add up especially if your site is tallying up a large number of hits or the logs either haven’t been cleaned out manually or aren’t set to be cleaned out automatically. No need to fear, the time for some site cleaning up has arrived at its best to kick off by freeing up that space.
Cleaning out the log is extremely simple. To do this, log in to the cPanel of your site and click on Raw Log Manager. From here, it is simply a process of checking and unchecking boxes based on what you would like to do. Here are a couple quick explanations of what you are looking at:
· Archive Logs in your home directory at the end of each month – This will save the raw access logs in a compressed file in your home directory at the end of every month so you can access them later.
· Remove the previous month's archived logs from your home directory at the end of each month – This will remove the previous month's archived file at the end of each month automatically.
If you have it set to archive logs each month, there will be a list of those archived logs underneath those two options. Feel free to delete any old archives that you are not interested in keeping any longer. When you are finished deciding what you want to do, simply click the “Save” button and you’re all set.
Some servers will automatically clean out the logs by themselves (don’t worry, archived logs are safe), so not everyone will have a problem with space being used up without intent. For others, following these simple steps can save a lot of headache and confusion. Feel free to go back into the Raw Log Manager and edit these settings or view/delete archived logs at any time.
